Awooga awooga awooga! Brain fart...
Silly old man, even though it was there in front of me when I did the
bridging... I didn't notice... The laptop is connected to the network via
WAP (Wireless access point) so not suprising it was not working well.(It's
a known RPCEmu might not work over WiFi thing).
The Win side continued to worked okay over the bridged connection.
Thereafter I did install 2.1.3 which obviously didn't play the game either.
Strange business, as the RO ShareFS shares on other machines showed in
name, but were not accessible.
Time to stop playing and get on...

As all other computer on the LAN here are cable connected, no problems.
