document.write but not document.writeln

I'm completely new to JavaScript.

I tried a small number of elementary JavaScript examples this evening
with NS 1627, and it appears that document.write works, but
document.writeln seems to output nothing. Is that what you would
expect?

Is there any page where the implementation status of JavaScript
features or functions within NS is tracked for users to see? It
seems to me that it would be useful for those of us who are hoping
to write pages or sites likely to be visited by NS users, and
maybe as a help for those of us who are learning JavaScript too.
