Re. setting up the ROMs and boot sequence etc., it is quite involved, especially if you havce not used RISC OS for a while.

There are some walk-through guides for RISC OS 5 and RPCEmu on Win/Mac here:

The principles for Linux are somewhere in-between, and the RISC OS 5 instructions more-or-less apply to RISC OS 3 or 4 too. Note that the ROOL RISC OS 5 disc image and !Boot structure etc. work from every version of RISC OS from 3.1 to 4.02, and also the 5.xx versions. It's simple to just stick with that.

What would be nice would be a ready-to-go version of HardDisc4 from ROOL in a 'ready to extract into the HostFS directory natively' mode. I guess it should be reasonably trivial to set up something like that which tracks the nightly HardDisc4 builds, come to think of it.
