So it is possible to find the default, which must be to allow adverts
since my Choices file contained: 'block_advertisements:1' and when I
un-ticked 'Hide advertisements' that line disappeared.

Yeah, a developer who used LibCSS for an iOS app originally added
the flex support for us a long time ago.
However NetSurf didn't do anything with those properties until a
couple of years ago:
https://source.netsurf-browser.org/netsurf.git/log/content/handlers/html/layout_flex.c
There are a couple of sample test cases here, which use flex
properties, and should render the same as Firefox:
https://source.netsurf-browser.org/netsurf.git/tree/test/flex
If I were developing a web site to work in NetSurf now, I'd use
flex. The NetSurf web site doesn't because it was designed years
ago and hasn't been modernised.

The only things saved in the Choices file are things that are
different from the defaults.
You can also visit `about:config` and look at the Provenance column.

I have some set and some not set. I know I have made choices in the past
but I can't remember what the default was. I tried looking in the Zip
download on the assumption there would be a default Choices file that
would be used if there wasn't one already, but I couldn't find one.

Here, yes it is off, but in all honesty I was not aware it had such a
capability, so obviously I hadn't set any of those options in
Choices-Content... They are just off by default. :-)

Interesting - I wonder why so many people are reporting that they can
see all four pictures, then! Does everyone else have the ad-blocking
