We need a RISC OS maintainer to step up to work on these sorts of
things. They simply aren't reproducible on the GTK front end that
the core developers develop on.

Yes, I've seen items appear to deselect themselves. Strange, innit?
I discovered, by fluke, another way to get an instant crash. Open
the hotlist, open an ordinary window in front of it. Drag the mouse
from the hotlist into the ordinary window. Bang.
Not a normal thing for anybody to do, granted. It was just a fluke
that it happened to me, while I was dragging rather carelessly.

I see that too, #4454 Titanium OS5.24.
Also trying to delete a single entry is a bit odd. Select a single entry and
on moving the mouse pointer up to the trash icon the line de-selects and the
trash icon greys out. The way around this is to select the line then slide
off the window to the left or right which leaves the entry selected and the

Also trying to delete a single entry is a bit odd. Select a single entry and

I just tried #4454 on the hotlist. Most of the redraw is now correct,
but if you delete an entry of the hotlist when all of the list is
displayed (i.e. there is empty space at the bottom of the window),
the bottom line is repeated.
Erm, I haven't checked later versions than 4454...

The 3.8 Release
Michael Drake and Chris Young appear to have fixed the blocking bugs
around http authentication.
The re-build of the Haiku CI worker has been successful and produced
working packages (for 32bit haiku).
If everyone can test CI builds #4425 or later that would be great.
I plan to tag the 3.8 release in git during this evening and have
release builds ready for tomorrow.
Now is the time to yell if there is a glaring problem!

It's best not to post to two or more lists at the same time. Unless the
recipients have done their filtering carefully all the posts could end up
in the first list to be found e.g. if they filter on "To:" rather than
"List-ID:".

Working fine, I've added code to convert to UTF-8 but UTF-8 usernames
and passwords still don't work. Not sure if this is my problem,
NetSurf, httpbin.org or just a general issue with HTTP auth.
I tried:
https://httpbin.org/basic-auth/usér/pass
Which converts itself to:
https://httpbin.org/basic-auth/us%C3%A9r/pass
I can't get it to work in Firefox either so I suspect it's one of the
latter.

Our current layout engine doesn't support dynamic changes
to the page. The layout engine needs a rewrite to handle
this, which is a big job.
It won't happen for the release.

new release and nested <ul>
Michael Drake wrote on 15 Aug:

It seems to be a current fashion that many websites declutter their
menu by grouping sub-options under a minimal number of main choices.
Some sites do this only for small screens, and give a fuller list on
large screens. Alas, Netsurf seems to get the small-screen version.
Here's an example: http://stjohns-glastonbury.org.uk
At first I groaned and presumed it's the usual Javascript impasse. But
looking at its HTML code, you can see that its navigation system uses
<ul> (unordered list) for the three menu items that Netsurf shows, but
WITHIN each of these list items is nested a second <ul> set that
Netsurf does not display.
Any chance that the new Netsurf release could add this trick? I've no
idea how difficult it would be. (But at least it ain't Javascript!)
I upgraded to #4405 just now, in hope, but nope.
(I'm the volunteer coordinator for this church website, so I have to
deal with it often. As a workaround, I copied the HTML for the
navigation section into StrongEd and inserted linebreaks to make it
easier to read. Each of the menu items has a straightforward URL to
the relevant page within the site. So I simply saved my tweaked
version as a new local page called "menu-redux/html", and now I can
click in that page to be taken to where I want within the site.)

Using newly installed #4405 here on ArmX6 with Ro5.25.
All the above tests (in that order!) work OK.
Have always thought, though, that it'd be nicer if Netsurf gave some
message when a login is unsuccessful, rather than just repeat the
identical dialogue, which the user can feel is an infinite loop.
Some months ago I reported a site that asked for ONLY a password,
WITHOUT a username. Netsurf failed but other browsers coped, giving a
reduced dialogue box. (That site, for a wedding now past, now gives
only an "under construction" page, but other examples might exist at
www.squarespace.com where it was hosted.)
Dunno if Netsurf's revised code would now cope with this unusual
situation.

Problem arises in testing this: After a successful login, Netsurf
will return to the site without asking again for credentials.
How do we make it forget so that we can try again to see what happens
with bogus credentials?
(Of course no problem if I had more carefully read Michael's
instruction that said to try with incorrect credentials *first*.)

Ah, was your message ahead of build updates, perhaps? I updated within

Please try the latest build
Hello,
Could people please test build #4403 or later? (Or build from
latest master, if you compile from source.)
https://ci.netsurf-browser.org/builds/
We are close to making a release, and would like to check that
nothing is broken.
I am particularly interested to hear from anyone who can run
the following platforms:
- Amiga
- Atari
- Haiku
- RISC OS
- Windows
We have just changed the way that HTTP authentication works,
so I would be grateful if people could check that anything
that requires an HTTP basic auth login still works with the
latest build.
If you don't know any sites which use HTTP authentication,
you can use:
https://httpbin.org/basic-auth/foo/bar
(Where "foo" is the username, and "bar" is the password,
and you can change the "correct" username and password
by changing the URL.)
However, testing with real-world sites is better.
Please try entering the incorrect credentials, the correct
credentials, and canceling the login, by closing the login
window.
Note: the Windows build doesn't yet support HTTP auth, so
for that platform, I'm just looking for a general
indication of whether the browser functions.
Cheers,

you have bugs open about NetSurf having a "caching" issue or failure
to display images etc. none of which have logs attached and are
explicitly awaiting feedback. It would be helpful if you could respond
to these so we can get enough information to attempt to fix them.
On RISC OS I have determined that disc caching is generally a waste of
time as the filesystems performance is dreadful. The default *disc*
cache size on RISC OS is 0 (i.e. off) and is probably the correct
value for such low performance systems.

advertisements' and you do have all those GIFs in a sub directory called
'images'. Try the option off if it's on and if that works, use a more
cryptic directory name than 'images'.

The GIF buttons show up and work on both sites with NS CI #4390.
What version of NS are you using?

Shows up fine here on both NetSurf 3.8(Dev CI #4387) & Safari. The only
difference I can see is that Safari doesn't show the visitor count which
might be ddown to my settings.

All those yellow links are working here.

And the similar buttons here are working too.
ARMX6, RISC OS 5.25 RComp version, 25-Apr-18 and NetSurf 3.8 (Dev CI
#4385)
Just updated to #4389 and all the buttons still work.
Best wishes,
Peter.

That one's now come back but the problem persists with MMPA. The MMPA site
works fine when run from the local disc. Only GIFs go awol; PNGs and JPEGs
are OK.

All seems visible here! Latest 5.25 ROM, NetSurf 3.8 (Dev CI #4386) - both
latest AFAIK.

Missing images
Hi all, I've got a strange problem on one of my sites.
On http://www.mmpa.org.uk/ all of the gif images are missing, including
the yellow navigation buttons at the top. If you go to other pages the
"home" and "News" buttons are present.
On Otter Browser and on other platforms all the images are present.
Before I raise a bug report I'd like to know if other NetSurf users are
seeing the same fault. There was a recent update to the news panel which
increased it's size. This could have affected the rendering.

Unfortunately we have a couple of release critical bugs [1] which made
this release unwise. I am looking at these bugs but currently cannot

proceed.
